SEATTLE, WASHINGTON...October 20, 2004... Todd Shipyards Corporation (NYSE:TOD) announced today
that its wholly owned subsidiary, Todd Pacific Shipyards Corporation ("Todd Pacific" or the "Company"),
has received the 2004 Environmental Excellence Award for Pollution Prevention and Cleanup from the
Association of Washington Business ("AWB") for its environmental practices at its Seattle shipyard.
In a ceremony held yesterday in Seattle, AWB announced the award to Todd Pacific for its recent
implementation of its storm and wastewater collection and discharge system at the Company's Seattle
shipyard and its CERCLA ("Superfund") remediation action at the Harbor Island site. Todd Pacific's award
winning activities included both policy and workplace changes as well as significant physical upgrades
to its shipyard facility. These changes have focused on waste minimization, use of environmentally appropriate
materials, clean work practices, dock water and sandblast grit management, and storm water pollution prevention.
Earlier this year, Todd Pacific's storm and wastewater work and its other environmental upgrades were
recognized by the United States Coast Guard when it awarded Todd Pacific its prestigious William M.
Benkert bronze award. The Benkert Award is the premier national award that recognizes excellence in
marine environmental protection. It was established to honor Rear Admiral William "Mike" Benkert,
whom many regard as the father of the Coast Guard Marine Environmental Protection Program.
Todd was also selected in May 2004 as the recipient of the BEST (Businesses for an Environmentally
Sustainable Tomorrow) Award in the Stormwater Pollution Prevention category. This award is
presented by Resource Venture, the City of Seattle, and the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce to
companies who demonstrate significant, unique and creative approaches to becoming "green" businesses.
Todd Pacific performs a substantial amount of repair and maintenance work on commercial and federal
government vessels engaged in various seagoing trade activities in the Pacific Northwest. Its customers
include the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Washington State Ferry system, the Alaska Marine
Highway system, and other government units, plus cruise ships, U.S. flag cargo carriers, fishing
boats, tankers, tugs and barges.
