Todd Shipyard has standards set to keep the yard in a clean, safe fashion. These
standards are referred to as "Best Management Practices" or "BMP's. Every employee,
subcontractor and customer is a critical player in maintaining our facility and cleaning up
after a job is complete. Listed below are just a few of the practices that should be
incorporated into our every day activities.
- Yard Clean Up - Always pick up after yourself, sweep up debris, use the trash
receptacles located throughout the facility.
- Housekeeping - Keep your workstations clean and in an efficient manner. Sweep up
workstations at the end of the shift and dispose of materials properly.
- Storm Drains - No discharge of any type should enter any storm drain. Work away from
any storm drains and maintain the catch basins.
- Enclosed Activities - Activities that generate any pollutant should be done in an
enclosed area. Use of tarps to enclosed activities when spray painting or sand blasting
is mandatory.
- Paint Mixing Areas - Drip pans shall be used for all paint mixing. Locations should be away from water or storm drains.
- Liquid Containment - Drip pans of sufficient size should be utilized for other
liquid products. Have spill prevention box available before the job begins if the potential
for a spill exist.
- Spill Clean Up - In the event that a spill occurs, stop the source of the spill and
call ext. 292 to report the area and dispatch the incidental spill response team.
- Water Discharge - Sanitary and gray water is not allowed in to receiving bodies of water.
- Dust and Over Spray - Curtains and barriers to the degree that is feasible should
serve as containment in paint and blast areas. Maintain the dry dock curtains and set
them up before any spray painting or sandblasting operations begin.
- Dry-dock Clean Up - Shovels, brooms, and powered equipment shall clean the dry-dock
before it is submerged. Document all undockings with pictures taken by the dockmaster.
- Waste Disposal - All waste streams need proper labeling to prevent cross contamination and
assure proper recycling and disposal.

Rainsberger at 206-623-1635 ext. 207.
