at good value over and over again. We dry dock vessels up to 30,000 LT, and repair:

think of

Our record of excellence under pressure of time, money, and quality is remarkable. BUT, we
were not satisfied with the status quo. To meet the ever more demanding needs of our customers,
we had to find new ways of doing business and fixing ships. That is why we have embraced Lean
Ship Repair, the relentless, deliberate elimination of waste and activities that do not add
value for the customer. Lean principles demanded it so we...
Reorganized to Serve You Better
In contrast to the traditional shipyard organization aligned by trades (ship-fitters,
electricians, painters, etc.), in 2004 we reorganized to manage work by area and type.
Now there are four production groups and a Program Office:
|
|
- Program Office - Project Managers are the primary Todd interface with the
customer, guiding you through the ship repair process in the most effective and service-oriented
manner, while managing the scope, cost, time, and quality of the Owner's experience at Todd. The
Program Offices include contract managers, project financial support, estimating, and engineering.
The Ship Repair Program Office handles all non-Navy projects. This separation enables customization
of services to meet different needs.
- On-Board Center - a single organizational arm of the Production department that visibly executes
the work on the vessel. Work is organized by area of the ship, process requirements, intelligent,
planned sequencing, and through the application of manpower and equipment at the right time and
place to optimize the overall effort. The on-board manpower is managed by a single "Ship Manager".
He/she is the senior production supervisor on the project and is responsible to coordinate Todd's
execution of the work.
- Repair Center - a single organizational arm of the Production department that focuses on
the overhaul of major end items taken from the ship, to be returned to the ship. This is
primarily a machine manufacturing center that overhauls shafts, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and other
major end items.
- Resource Planning Group - a support group within the company designed to assist project managers
and the production teams in coordinating company resources. These resources include personnel, equipment
availability, yard space, pier space and scheduling. This group also supports the Senior Leadership
team by making and maintaining long range forecasts for future contracts and monitors work loads to avoid shortages
or conflicts of resources.
- Manufacturing Center - a single organizational arm of the Production department that
fabricates major assemblies or repetitive multiple units from virgin materials. This is the steel
fabrication shop, the sheet metal shop, pipe shop, and paint shop. We routinely apply Lean Cellular
Manufacturing techniques to optimize production by moving stock and equipment into a logical and
uniquely tailored arrangement to minimize costs of production. Some production runs have delivered
as much as 50% reduction in hours using custom-organized production cells.
- Mobilization, Maintenance, & Demobilization ("MMD") - a single organizational arm
of the Production department that focuses on the utilities and services needed to support the
ship and the repair activities on board. This group manages the deployment of temporary
ventilation and lighting, welding equipment, fire protection, potable water, steam, shore power
telephones, etc. to and from the ship.
