In addition to Todd Pacific Shipyards' Navy Repair and Ship Repair services, Todd works with its customers on
fabrications and new construction projects. A full service Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
staff works in conjunction with all functional departments as needed on all fabrication and new construction
projects.
Engineering department competencies include:
- designing ship and industrial systems and structures based on owner furnished performance specifications
- working with owners' design agents in developing detailed production information
- developing jigs/fixtures and other building aids to providing planning support to project teams
for technically challenging jobs such as main engine removals from extremely tight compartments
- design and technical support of new construction projects and ship repair work
Engineering staff personnel offer capabilities in Electrical, Mechanical, Hull & Structural, and
Naval Architecture engineering disciplines. Engineering utilizes a full complement of CAD software, including AutoCAD
and SolidWorks, as well as scientific software tools such as GHS, and COSMOS and MAESTRO FEA.
New construction projects that Todd has undertaken in the last ten years include constructing
three Washington State Ferry 460 foot double-ended cycloconverter diesel-electric vehicle ferries,
a 70 megawatt Power Barge for export and Caisson "Cutting Edges" for the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
Due to the fairly different requirements that new construction projects have, Todd is selective when considering which ones
to undertake. This is to ensure that there is a good match between the project, the owner, and the shipyard so that
the project will be a successful one.
Learn more about these specific projects in the New Construction project profiles.
